Weekend Roundup: Spring has ARRIVED … on the calendar at least

Although today is the first day of Spring, nobody seems to have alerted Mother Nature. If anyone has her number, a wake-up call would be appreciated!

michigan-march-madnessIt’s Michigan March Madness at 7 Monks with a Michigan flair on Thursday with the MSU game at 4:40pm and the UM game at 7:10pm. 7 Monks will also have a special tapping tomorrow Our Ginger Beard – a Fresh Ginger IPA that’s a collaboration between Beards Brewery of Petoskey and Our Brewing Company of Holland.

From 5:30 – 7:30 TC Green Drinks will be at Brew. Green Drinks is free, open to all and happens on the third Thursday of every month at a different bar around Traverse City. Brew is offering $1 off on Michigan pints and wines for Green Drinkers.

Josh Davis and Joe Wilson are live at The Workshop from 7-10 and The Fresh Trio plays Union Street from 9 to close.

Spring cleaning anyone? Bring in those old favorites and find a new spring wardrobe at the Clothing Swap at Little Fleet. They’ll lay it all out and you can start digging through the loot from 6pm to Close. All items not claimed will be donated to Goodwill!

Harper & Midwest Kind in Concert at InsideOut will feature an amalgamation of blues, rock, funk, soul and world music. Australian singer/ songwriter Peter D. Harper creates a heady mix of roots music through his creative use of the harmonica, and the haunting drone of the didgeridoo.The show starts at 8 pm with a $10 cover.

Get a fresh start to your week and go to the Traverse City Farm Market between 10-2. You will find local fresh lettuce, micro-greens, meats, dairy, honey, candles, maple syrup, baked goods, canned goods, cheeses, root vegetables, treats and even gluten free treats.

Bring your family to Northern Naturals on Saturdays at 3 PM to listen or perform at the Kids Open Mic.

Join Chateau Chantal at Opa Uptown for an evening of being social, meeting fun people and drinking great wine. Starting at 5pm, Opa Uptown will be hosting an exclusive event for 50 people focused on great wine from Chateau Chantal, flavorful appetizers from Opa Uptown and a demonstration of 4-5 appetizer recipes for your next party. Chateau Chantal’s winemaker will be present to chat about wine making and to answer wine pairing questions. The Workshop hosts the On Quartet, who have been bringing outstanding jazz music to the TC music scene since 2007. Featuring the talented Jon Lindenau (Drums), Jerry Cameron (Bass), Charlie Tomlin (Guitar), and Brandon Everest (Saxophone) – their sweet soulful sound has to be heard to be believed!

Delilah DeWylde and The Lost Boys play InsideOut, bringing the best of American roots music — hard-partying honky tonk country, searing gutbucket blues and lonesome hillbilly twang — and distilled it into a potent moonshine known as rockabilly. Concert starts at 8 pm. $10 Tickets available at InsideOut & Oryana.

Jesse Dee is a singing, songwriting, guitar-playing soul man and brings his memorable melodies and positive, slice-of-life lyrics to the Dennos Museum Center at 8 PM. Tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door, and $22 for members.

The Artful Retreat with Stephanie Schlatter makes artistic expression accessible while exploring the relationship between art and wine. You will sip your way through samples of six wines, creating six art pieces will created by you as you get your fingers into the fine art of ‘hands on’ tasting followed by a Wine & Cooking Seminar with dinner. The splendor of brass will echo through the winery this Sunday for the Afternoon Soiree at Brengman Brothers. The concert starts at 4 and will feature the Grand Traverse Brass Quintet. Five of the finest brass players the area has to offer will span the ages from the Renaissance period to music from the past few years. Price is $35 per person for concert access to the cheese /food table and wine/coffee bar or $20 per person without the wine. Call the winery to reserve your spot or for details at  (231) 946-2764.

Aspiring artists and wine lover can head out to 45 North for the “Old Masters” painting party! Paint in the style of a famous artist while you sip on wines from 45 North. Each session is $20 plus $10 for art supplies. The class is 2 1/2 hours. Wine is not included but can be purchased.

At 6 PM the Sola Gratia stage in Lake Ann you will have a chance to hear Joshua, Rachel & Dominic Davis work their magic. Proceeds from the evening will go to support the work of the SEEDS after school program which works hard to give kids in our regions hands on experience with the arts and other areas. As always, coffee will be on hand thanks to Higher Grounds Trading Co. and kids are free. Adults, please plan on 15 dollars a ticket.
