Thursday, May 8th
This month’s Digs & Swigs at Black Star Farms takes place Thursday-Saturday with the theme of “Crazy 80s”. The 80s were a decade of Chardonnay, Merlot and hideous fashion! Whatever you rocked out be sure to show them and receive samples of their Arcturos Barrel-Aged and Sur Lie Chardonnay.
Tonight you can also join Joshua Davis & Joe Wilson at The Workshop from 7-10 for a free show showcasing the talents of two original members of Steppin’ In It.
Friday, May 9th
Bowers Harbor and the Grand Traverse Resort have teamed up for a Wine & Spa Weekend at the Resort. Jeff Haas has been one of the prime movers of the local & Michigan jazz scene and the Jeff Haas Birthday Bash at InsideOut will pay tribute to this local artist with a free show kicking off a regular summer series. (check out a nice video from Jeff below!)

Saturday, May 10th
Start your Saturday right with the Sara Hardy Farmers Market from 8-noon at the corner of Cass and Grandview Parkway. It’s the place for the freshest Traverse City has to offer with local produce, baked goods, flowers and plants.
Every spring the village of Mesick celebrates the tasty but elusive morel mushroom at the Mesick Mushroom Festival. Enjoy a parade, carnival rides, games, 5K, softball tourney and a contest to see who can find the biggest mushroom in the woods!
Its time for spring cleaning and the Village People are holding the Village Yard Sale on the piazza between Pleasanton Bakery, Left Foot Charley and Higher Grounds! Village Merchants will also be having incredible sales inside, throughout the Mercato.
Liv & Sav is the melding of Holland’s Olivia Mainville and Savannah Buist of The Accidentals. Olivia and Savannah met at Blissfest and collaborated to record a couple of songs on Olivia’s EP. Their music has been referred to as “Rockabilly, Gypsy Jazz” with a little punk thrown in there for good measure, and you can check it out (for free) at InsideOut.
On Saturday, May 10th, Chateau Chantal invites you to a special Mothers Day Wine Dinner! It starts at 6 PM with a Winery Tour and features an amazing dinner. $69 per person, includes tax, tip and wine – click the link for all the details!
Other Saturday fun includes the Kids Open Mic at Northern Naturals, Crispin Campbell’s Triton Project at The Workshop, Blake Elliott at Brew, and for the first time since ’96, Benny Edwards & Ashley McTavish re-unite in a free show at 7 Monks.
Sunday, May 11th
On Sunday at Lars Hockstad Auditorium, the Traverse Symphony Orchestra presents Dazzling Strings with Russian-American Yevgeny Kutik performing one of the most famous concertos in the violin literature with a dizzying show of agility and speed.

The Village Outdoor Farmers Market returns to the Piazza at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons every Monday from 3-7 PM. Great farm market food plus live entertainment! Also on Monday is Monks for Angels, a fundraiser in support of the Angel Care Scholarship Fund. Blue Footed Booby will be playing from 6-8 PM.
Next week is American Craft Beer Week. For Day 1 on Tuesday, check out Stormcloud & Michigan Hop Alliance at 7 Monks featuring the release of Stormcloud Brewing Company Leelanau Pale with Summit Hops from Michigan Hop Alliance!
Also on Tuesday is the “What’s eating Gilbert Grape” Brickways fundrasier at InsideOut. It features food from Roaming Harvest, music from Acoustic Dynamite and of course the classic film. The evening benefits Brickways Community Living Center, a nonprofit home where residents can develop their daily living skills in a family atmosphere.
On Wednesday, Bistro Fou Fou takes you to Stage 5 of their “Tour de France” – Languedoc. 5 courses are $65 includes tax & gratuity.
Thursday is Green Drinks at Aerie Lounge at the Grand Traverse Resort from 5:30-7:30. The resort is providing shuttle service from downtown TC to Aerie Lounge and they’re offering off appetizer discounts, 1 Off Drafts, Wines by the Glass & Well Drinks for this monthly networking event.
On Saturday the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula invite you to “Blossom Day”. Meet the winemakers and taste their soon-to-be-released offerings right from the barrel (or tank). Barrel and reserve wines are showcased in addition to each winery’s standard tasting list. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event (while supplies last). The ticket price includes a souvenir glass** and special Blossom Day tastes at all eight wineries.
Saturday is also the time for the Empire Asparagus Festival – an annual celebration of all things asparagus games, dinners and – of all things – an annual oral poetry contest for the best “Ode to Asparagus.”
