Weekend Roundup: Here Come the Holidays Edition

The holiday season kicks off this weekend around Traverse City with a a sleigh-full of events. Here are a some of the things we’re looking forward to this weekend. Cork OrnamentsThe Little Fleet continues to carve out a reputation as one of the swingingest places in town with Dance & Dine – an evening of smooth swing dance moves paired with a swanky food truck dinner. Dance lessons are at 6:30, dinner and drinks at 7:45 – $30/ticket.

Northern Naturals invites you to their Jazz & Craft Night – enjoy music from Jimmy Olson as you craft homemade cork ornaments. Holiday hard ciders, wines and good eats available! 6-9

Tonight is a great music night around town! Check out Billy Strings & Don Julin at Little Bohemia (8-10 PM), Jeff Haas Trio at Reflect Bistro at Cambria Suites, and

PS: If you’re down Frankfort way (or want to make the drive for some tasty brews), Thursdays are Family Game Night at Stormcloud Brewing with a family deal of 3 pizzas & sodas for just $25!


December First Friday at Village at Grand Traverse Commons has a full slate of activities from 5-8 PM (and usually on into the evening). Highlights are a ton of holiday sales at Mercato shops & stores, the opening of the Village Historic Display in North Mercato with free food & drink and music from Don Julin at Billy Strings at Left Foot Charley (sip some of that Jefferson Cup Riesling), Blake Elliott at Boutique a la vie and Greg Seaman at One of a Kind Cycle.


Santa Arrives in Downtown TC for the super family-friendly Annual Holiday Open House from 5-9 PM. You can shop at participating stores until 9 with sales, specials and prizes offered. Also enjoy antique fire engine rides, caroling, live reindeer and live entertainment at the corner of Cass and Front throughout the evening! Santa and the tree lighting happen at 6 and there’s free Christmas cartoons at the State Theatre as well!

Chef Jonathan Dayton prepares a 4 course pre fixe menu for $50 per person ($70 with wine pairings) at 6:30 PM at the Inn at Black Star Farms.

What do you get when you mash up a classic Dr. Seuss Christmas story with the rock opera Tommy? How Grinchy Met the Who – a rock-and-roll trip to Whoville the likes of which you’ve never seen! The show is at Inside Out Gallery and costs $15.


Old Mission WineThe West Bay Beach Resort (Holiday Inn) invites you to Breakfast with Santa from 10-noon featuring a special “Elves’ Buffet” with Santa’s favorite breakfast foods and a chance for kids to decorate their own pancakes.

Every Saturday the Village Farm Market at the Grand Traverse Commons is the place to be from 10 AM – 2 PM for nearly 100 farmers & local food sellers. Make sure to stick around from 2-8 PM for a full slate of holiday festivities including horse-drawn carriage rides around The Village, holiday crafts at Left Foot Charley with Scrap TC and the village tree lighting. LFC is holding their Holiday Hootenanny as well featuring warm Cinnamon Girl Cider ALL DAY, sweet cider for the kids and the 1947 Wurlitzer Jukebox on free play!

Saturday is the Day of Giving at all Old Mission wineries – 15% of your purchases go to a nonprofit selected by the winery, so it’s the perfect day to stock up for your holiday gifting & entertaining!

Microbrew TourThere’s a Christmas cookie class at NMC with Julia Slack for an adult and accompanying child age 9 and up – click here for all the details.

The Little Fleet will be hosting a Chili Cook-off and Canned Food Drive for Goodwill’s Food Rescue Program from 12-4.  Bring in a canned food item to the Little Fleet and receive $1 PBRs. 15 entries are allowed –  register before event by emailing ittlefleet@gmail.com. Entry fee is $10 worth of canned food. Prizes include $100 Critic’s Pick, and a Free Growler & T-shirt for the People’s Choice Award. It’s open to any kind of chili (must be homemade). Tasting starts at 12 and lasts until 2. Across the road Front Street’s Tattoo will be hosting Toys for Tats as well.

Follow the Microbrew & Music Festival team as they hop on the Brew Bus for a Microbrew & Music Festival TC Ale Trail Pub Crawl around Traverse City! They are only doing Traverse City breweries so walking is easy and helps process the microbrew!

Cap the evening off with Don Julin & Billy Strings from 8-11 PM at Workshop Brewing Co!
