2014 Leland Wine Festival Poster by Kris Love
The 29th annual Leland Wine & Food Festival is a northern Michigan tradition that takes place this Saturday, June 14th from 12-6 PM in the Leland Harbor. Just shy of its 3rd decade, it’s the oldest wine festival in Michigan and has expanded to become a 2 day affair.
For the past several years, Kate Vilter of the Riverside Inn has been the person who brings it all together. She says, “We’re looking forward to Soul Patch playing at the Fest this year – new music and a great sound. They should really get the party going! We have some great new additions for both food and wineries too – 9 Bean Rows and Leelanau Pie & Pastry are new food vendors this year and for wineries, we have Luarentide, Hawthorne, and Bluestone as first timers as well.”
Art has been a component of the Festival from its inception with wine-related work from an artist featured every year on their print-quality posters. Last year they added a new Friday night event called ARTscape| An Evening of Wine & Art. Kate shares, “We are very excited about how the ARTscape is coming together this year. 54 pieces of artwork have been submitted for the juried show and with appetizers, music and flagship local wines it will be a great night!”
ARTscape is $20 and takes place from 5-8 PM on Friday, June 13th at the Old Art Building. You can click that link for information and at the ticket link below you can purchase advance tickets for Friday & Saturday. ARTscape & Festival attendees will have the opportunity to cast their ballot until Saturday, June 8 at 4:00 pm. The painting with the most votes will be announced from the band stand at 6:00 pm, at the Leland Wine & Food Festival.
Wine festival admission is $15 and includes an etched wine glass and two tokens for wine tasting. Additional tokens are available and age 10-21, or non-drinkers are $10, and under 10 is free. Tickets are available at gate, Two Fish Gallery and The Riverside Inn in Leland or online. If you buy online, you can get Friday & Saturday tickets for a $30 bundle. Advance tickets get you in “the fast line” so you might want to purchase now.
