The microbrewery boom continues as the latest on the scene, Hop Lot Brewing Co., starting construction in Suttons Bay early this month and on track for a summer 2014 opening.
The new brewery is the brainchild of brothers Steve and Drew Lutke and located off of M-22 just south of Suttons Bay on 5.5 acres. “We have an incredible space that allows us to create a beer oasis in an already beautiful area,” Drew says. “From the road, you’ll have no idea what you’re about to drive into and the experience you’re about to have. We’ll be utilizing the naturally wooded lot as a backdrop to the beer and hop gardens. The taproom faces the west and will have a panoramic view of the beer garden thanks to our fascination with windows.”
They will be renovating an existing structure for brewery production and adding a new 1,300 sq. ft. structure for the taproom, a half-acre outdoor beer garden, and a 1,400 sq. ft. hop garden.
Steve is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology and World Brewing Academy and will serve as head brewer. He says, “Our goal is a July opening and we are fighting as hard as we can to make it happen. The opening day tap list has been set, and we are anxiously waiting to get all of this deliciousness off paper and into the fermenters.”
Hop Lot received their TTB certification yesterday and will begin brewing within the next couple of weeks. They plan to open with several ales on tap and eventually expand their selection to 10 taps. They will begin interviewing candidates for serving and bartending positions within the next month. Keep up with them at hoplotbrewing.com and on their Facebook page.
