Chef James Rigato bringing Young Guns Chefs’ Dinner to Traverse City

Chef James Rigato is just 26 years old, but since graduating from Schoolcraft’s Culinary Program at age 17 he has worked at some of metro Detroit’s finer restaurants, opened The Root Restaurant & Bar with proprietor Ed Mamou, started the popular Young Guns Chef Dinner Series and is now a contestant on Season 12 of Top Chef. In October, he’s coming to Traverse City, and he’s bringing friends!

The Detroit Free Press reports that Chef James Rigato is bringing his popular Young Guns chefs’ dinner series to Traverse City on Sunday, October 19th at Trattoria Stella:

Rigato, executive chef of the Root Restaurant & Bar in White Lake Township, began the series of multicourse dinners last year to highlight talented younger chefs; for this event, he is expanding the concept to involve young Level 1 and 2 sommeliers.

Each of the six chefs will prepare one course, and Young Guns sommeliers — chosen with the help of Stella co-owner and sommelier Amanda Danielson — will pair two wines with each dish. One will be a Michigan wine and the other, an Old World selection.

Trattoria Stella executive chef and co-owner Myles Anton will prepare food for a predinner reception as well as the starting amuse and intermezzo.

Chef Rigato will be joined by Garrett Lipar of Torino in Ferndale, Anthony Lombardo of the Hamilton in Washington, D.C., Rebecca LaMalfa of Trenchermen in Chicago, Doug Hewitt of Terry B’s Restaurant and Bar in Dexter, and Ben Robison of Bacco Ristorante in Southfield.

Participating sommeliers are Katie Asher, Rachel Van Til and Alfiero Silveri of Trattoria Stella, Evan Barrett of Plum Market in West Bloomfield, Chris Hunter of Vino Volo in Detroit, Travis Tache of Stafford’s Weathervane in Charlevoix, Erika Szot of Left Foot Charley and Peter Marantette of Reserve in Grand Rapids.
