We’ve been covered in snow since early November, and after a solid 3 months of bitter cold & snow we’ve all been hibernating to some degree. How many nights have you thrown together creative dinners instead of venturing out into winter to eat exactly what your heart desires?
It’s late February now, the sun has made some welcome appearances, and we’re in the homestretch to warmth! It’s time to unravel your cocoon and discover the flavors that hundreds of thousands travel to Traverse City to experience. In short, it’s time for Traverse City Restaurant Week! Traverse City’s best restaurants have each put together a 3 course menu for just $25 per person from Sunday, February 23 to Saturday, March 1, 2014.
susdotcom (Susan Fisher) writes “This is what @maxhfisher had for lunch today. Yes, Mac and Grilled Cheese.” It’s from The Soup Cup at the old Railroad Depot. You’ll want to stay tuned to Susan’s Instagram, her tweets @wintercomedytc next week for the TC Winter Comedy Festival and also the blog she co-authors Bring Us Bread!

This photo of a tasty “one-hander” sandwich at the Workshop Brewing Company was taken by Traverse Traveler yesterday. Is it their Pry Bar Porter or the Wrecking Bar Bourbon Barrel Porter? Probably the Pry Bar which they pair with this Cherry Pry Bar BBQ pork, pickled cabbage, double oat bread sandwich, but either way, it’s a delicious brew for a wintry afternoon!

Jaffe Davis, Traverse City director of A Tourist in My Own Town explains, “We live in such an amazing culinary destination, but so many of us are working so hard all summer long that we don’t have a chance to enjoy it. When we finally get a chance to breathe in late fall or winter, we find that many of the restaurants we were so excited about are closed. We’re creating a mutually beneficial system that allows local people to get out and enjoy where they live and support our service industry through the lean months.”
The program is simple. For just $60, you can purchase the card that allows you and a guest to enjoy lunch or dinner with a 25% discount on your food and alcohol on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at any of the program affiliates. You can even plan a “staycation” with a 25% discount at participating hotels on those nights. It’s only open to residents of Antrim, Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties and good for discounts through May 20, 2014. Read more
