Traverse City’s ongoing debate over events & festivals makes the Detroit Free Press and once again it’s coming off as Traverse City saying “NO” to tourism and tourist dollars. The matter is before the City Commission tonight, and we also scan through some positive press for our food scene.

The Cooks’ House was out at Loma Farm for a pop-up dinner and shared several photos including this one of the beginnings of cherry clafoutis with lemon balm ice cream in cast iron.

Green Cuisine is an annual event that takes place next Wednesday (July 16) from 5-8 PM at Food For Thought near Empire. The annual event offers a chance to meet and sample the works of local food and beverage artisans, tour Food For Thought’s organic farm and green buildings and socialize, learn and have fun in a beautiful setting. They also have a “green lifestyles” tent where you can learn about other green local products and services.
“That cherry pie calling your name at the National Cherry Festival this week in Traverse City is made in Michigan, but they’re a product of regulations that, in some years, has led Michigan farmers to dump cherries on the ground while products made with tart cherries are being imported from Canada and Poland.”
